About Me

Varda Pandey

I am a markets professional or very simply a student of markets who has spent the past 15 years – starting with India and expanding to Asia – probing and prodding financial products and how they became relevant for changing market regimes.

Going back in time I am an economist by academic training (Bachelors and Masters in Economics from Delhi University, Delhi School of Economics) but learning on a trading floor real time taught me the value of experience and “learning by doing”.

For most part of the last decade I’ve been a sales/trading professional with local and global banks servicing large Global Macro Funds and Asset Managers who have had a keen eye for Asian Rates and FX, more so with the opening up of Asian fixed income markets to global investors.

I’ve learnt extensively through my conversations with some of the smartest minds (money managers, economists, traders) in the financial industry, never taking any spoken or written word or concept for granted. We all have our ways of learning but personally my own learning has been a fortunate combination of logic and intuition validated later by analysing risk via product cash flows. This approach has importantly helped me determine linkages across financial products and innovations and how the vanilla building blocks almost always come together to become something more complex. It is this approach to learning that I wish to share with all of you to hopefully help enhance your academic training with a practitioner’s lens on markets.
